Spotting patterns is one of the first big math ideas. On these pages children look at a row of pictures, say the pattern out loud (“bee, ladybug, bee, ladybug…”) and work out what comes next.
What’s inside
- AB patterns (3 pages): bugs, ocean animals and farm animals; circle the picture that comes next
- AAB, ABB and AABB patterns: space and forest friends
- Mixed patterns: find the pattern in each row with transportation pictures
- ABC and ABCD patterns: dinosaurs and winter, for children who are ready for more
- Cut and paste patterns: cut out the weather pictures and glue them in the empty boxes
- Color the pattern: circles, stars, hearts, squares and triangles to color in the right order
- Big and small patterns: is the next one big or small?
- Make your own pattern and 2 answer key pages
Tips
- Say the pattern out loud together, clapping on each picture.
- Start with AB, then move on to AAB and ABB.
- Make patterns with real things too: blocks, buttons, crayons or snacks.
Who it is for
Made for preschool and kindergarten, about ages 3 to 6. Print at 100% on US Letter paper (A4 works with “Fit to page”). The pictures are in color.
More math for little learners: number tracing 1-20, shape tracing and preschool and kindergarten printables.
